At ACC’s Health Sciences Academy, you can begin your journey to a career in healthcare with hands-on courses taught by passionate instructors, and practicum opportunities at local healthcare facilities. Gain real-world skills that healthcare employers want and set yourself up for a successful career in healthcare.
Start your journey by choosing from one of the following certificates awarded:
- Pharmacy Technician Certificate (for 11th graders)
- Phlebotomy Certificate (for 12th graders only)
- Emergency Medical Technician Certificate (for 12th graders only)

Time commitment
- Pharmacy = 4 semesters
- Phlebotomy = 3 semesters
- EMT = 2 semesters
Eligibility requirements
- Complete the Health Sciences Academy application.
- The application for next year’s cohort is open from November to January, giving you plenty of time to apply and prepare before the program begins next August.
- Be a high school junior in order to complete the pharmacy technician certificate.
- Be a high school senior in order to complete the phlebotomy technician and EMT certificate.
- Age requirements:
- Pharmacy – no age requirement
- Phlebotomy – 18 years old by March of senior year
- EMT – 18 years old by January of senior year
- Have an overall high school grade point average of 2.50 or better.
- Complete one of the following with the minimum grade listed:
- High School Biology/B
- College-level Biology/C
- Health Sciences Technology/B
- Be TSI complete in reading and writing for Phlebotomy and EMT.
Program requirements
- Submit immunization records to the online system before spring semester.
- Complete the following courses with a C or better: Essentials of Medical Terminology and Student Success for Health Professionals.
- Maintain an overall ACC grade point average of 2.50 or higher.
- Pass a criminal background check, drug screening, tuberculosis test, physical, and fingerprint background check prior to clinical internship. Additional fees may apply that are not included in tuition waiver, approximately $200.
