Is ECHS only for students who plan to attend ACC after high school?
No. Most ECHS credits will transfer easily to other public colleges and universities. High school counselors and college advisors can answer questions about the transferability of specific courses to different colleges.
You can also reach out to a Transfer Specialist within ACC’s Transfer Services department to discuss the process of transferring to other colleges. You can connect with a Transfer Specialist here: Transfer Services.
What types of classes are available?
ECHS programs offer the opportunity for high school students to take a variety of classes that result in the obtaining of an associates degree. The classes available will depend on the specific ECHS the student attends. Please contact your high school counselor for more information on the specific course sequence(s) offered at your high school.
When are classes offered?
ECHS programs offer classes at both the high school and the ECHS’ designated ACC campus(es). Classes generally take place during the school day.
What ACC resources are available to ECHS students?
ECHS students receive an ACC Student ID Card to access all ACC student resources, including college libraries, computer labs, free tutoring. and more. You can find more information about resources available to ECHS students here: Student Resources & Support.
If you have any questions about which resources would be most helpful for you or how to access these resources, please contact your Academic Success Manager/Coordinator. You can find your assigned Academic Success Manager/Coordinator here: Academic Success Liaisons.
What is the difference between ECHS and dual credit?
The biggest difference between ECHS and dual credit is that students attending an ECHS are following a specified course sequence that leads to the obtaining of an associates degree. ECHS programs also cover all costs for students in their programs, including tuition, textbooks, and transportation.
Dual credit students receive waivers that cover tuition and fees for eligible courses, but students are still responsible for textbook costs (unless they are eligible for the FAST program, which covers the cost of textbooks). More information about dual credit can be found here: Dual Credit Programs.
Can I still participate in extracurricular activities like athletic teams, music programs or clubs?
Yes. ECHS students may participate in extracurricular activities, based on the guidelines established by their school district. Please contact your high school counselor for more information on the manageability of participating in both ECHS programs and extracurricular activities.
Why are students encouraged to earn two years of college credit through ECHS?
Research shows that taking at least one dual credit/ECHS course in high school increases the students likelihood of successfully completing a college credential, especially among those who are first in their family to attend college.
