Information for HB5 College Prep
High School Seniors can take this course to earn a TSI Waiver in English or Math. This TSI waiver is accepted only at Austin Community College.
What is HB5 College Prep?
High school students can take one or more College Prep courses and simultaneously earn credit for both their high school diploma and the TSI Waiver. Courses are taught on the high school campus by HS Teachers.
Who Can Participate?
Students enrolled in a public, private, charter, or homeschool high school who…
- Have permission from the appropriate high school officials, and meet any admissions requirements set by their high school are a high school student (in the 12th Grade) at the time of enrollment.
- Meet course prerequisite and placement requirements for HS English IV.

HB5 College Prep allows students to progress toward their college goals by giving them the opportunity to earn a TSI Waiver at ACC.

Scenarios – Graduating Seniors
I graduated HS and did not pass the TSI or earn the ACC TSI Waiver. What do I do? Enroll at ACC! You can still start college without being TSI Complete and a dedicated advisor can help you navigate that.
I earned the ACC TSI Waiver but plan to attend Texas State (or any other college). What do I do? The TSI Waiver is typically only valid at ACC. You can enroll at ACC as early as the summer after graduation, take ENGL 1301 or Math 1332 using the waiver, pass the course, then transfer the credit to your next school!
I earned the TSI Waiver and plan to attend ACC. How do I get the waiver applied to my record? Once you register and have an ACCeID you can contact the ACC TSI Office or College Now (see contact info above) and they will locate and apply your waiver to your record.
I used the waiver but did not pass ENGL 1301 or Math 1332. What do I do? The waiver is only valid for 1 year once you enroll at ACC. You can reuse your waiver as long as it falls within that one year timeframe.
